Flex-Tilt Head, a Tripod Head for DSLRs

Flex-Tilt Head, a Tripod Head for DSLRs 1

Presented as a new product in Edelkrone’s line, and available from the end of February at a price of $99, the Edelkrone Flex-Tilt Head is a small tripod head with a difference. It allows to lift, flex and tilt cameras the size of a professional DSLR or similar (up to 2.5 Kg) easily and can be used on its own. Edelkrone says it is the world’s first camera head that can do more!

Small, with 85 x 95 x 27mm and a weight of 0,405 kg, the Flex-Tilt Head offers a spirit-level, the usual industry connections (1/4″-20 on top and 3/8″-16 on bottom), and fits in a corner of any backpack. Although it is meant to be used with a tripod, monopod or even small sliders, the Flex-Tilt Head can be used on its own, allowing its placement on the ground or up above, without any other form of support. This allows for some interesting image angles, as the promotional video suggests.

Besides allowing to tilt and lift a camera, the Flex-Tilt Head, which could well be included in the Pocket series from Edelkrone, allows to rotate a mounted camera, a function suggesting its use by photographers, as videographers do not use the vertical format… unless they are using a smartphone and suffer from VVS or Vertical Video Syndrome.

The small piece of equipment, although presented under a patent pending note, is not a completely new concept for Edelkrone. In fact, something similar has already been presented by the company before: the PocketSLIDER which is presented as a complete slider solution in your pocket.

The PocketSLIDER is a pocket sized professional camera slider and Edelkrone says, it is “the smallest slider in the world with great capabilities”.  The PocketSLIDER has a built-in camera head to give you pan and flex-tilt feature that is also amazing to use for macro shots, and the Flex-Tilt Head looks very much like a simpler version, without sliding options, more flex and tilt and the rotation included. And a different price, as the PocketSLIDER, sold with a Motion Control device for time lapse, PocketMOCO, costs a lot more. Different tools, no doubt, but some may find this Flex-Tilt Head useful.
