Some pretty cool news went out today as Rampant Design announced they were releasing Rampant Motion Graphics for Editors v1 and v2 as well as Rampant Textured Overlays. The team at Rampant is always innovating, but it’s great to see they’re still focused on increasing the utility of their product for current and new users.

All of the details are available via the press release below, but I was able to grab Rampant Design founder Sean Mullen to ask him a few quick questions about what this release means for editors and anyone who is curious to find out how these new products can impact the way they work.

ProVideo Coalition: Are these volumes an expansion of what’s currently out there or something that goes in a new direction?

Sean Mullen: We’ll always be known for our drag and drop Style Effects, however the Motion Graphics for Editors series is a new direction for us.  We’ve designed thousands of animated elements for busy editors or anyone who doesn’t have time to design their own to be able to easily create great looking Motion Graphics without having to start with a blank screen. These designs are the same that you see all over television and commercials.  Volume one is more of a base, something that you can use in just about any kind of situation.  Volume 2 is more edgy and is similar to the kinds of designs that I’ve previously created for the X Games, MTV, FUEL and the National Guard.

What sort of projects do you envision these will be able to be effectively utilized on?

The first Motion Graphics for Editors volume was designed as a base, something that could be used in just about anything.  We have a customer who works for a huge tech company and they produced hundreds of videos using the circles, arrows, boxes and other elements you’ll find in this volume.  It’s great for everything from corporate work to infographics and commercials.  Once we completed the first volume, the idea was to move on to more specific looks.  One thing I’ve always been asked about is the harder hitting stuff.  The kinds of elements you see in modern cell phone commercials, sports promos, music vids, etc.  That’s what you’ll find in volume 2.  Very modern, sometimes quick hitting, more high energy effects.  I’m currently designing volume 3 which will be completely different from the first two.  It’s important to me that we deliver relevant and fresh material to our customers.  I don’t believe in creating for the sake of creating.

Do these effects save editors time or open up creative opportunities for them?

Both.  It’s our mission to save editors time and money.  If something you normally do takes hours or days to complete and our effects can shave time off of your day, life is good.  There are many editors out there who use our effects in the previs stage, a way to quickly design something in order to get a green light from the client, this saves a ton of time and money.  Others look at our effects as a jumping off point, you start with our elements and combine them to make something new, make it your own.  We get countless emails from editors who don’t have time, the budgets are too tight, turnaround time is ridiculous or that they simply aren’t mograph designers but still want good looking motion graphics.  These are our people, they are why we work seven days a week.  We read every single email and take every phone call.  We’re always looking to create the next thing that can help out busy editors and artists.
