Media teacher, Dave Basulto, was tired of the limitations put on his classes due to the low number of cameras available to his students. He started allowing his students to use their iPhones and iPads to help shoot their projects. However, the footage was shaky, the audio was bad, and they were limited to the built-in lens. Not to be deterred, Dave sketched out an idea for a case for the iPad that would make mobile filmmaking a real possibility.
A short time later, Dave had 3D printed a prototype. The iPad now had handles and mounts for lights and audio gear. Thanks to Dave’s invention, the iPad and iPhone can also make use of a plethora of lenses. This includes the famous Moondog Labs Anamorphic lens used to shoot the movie Tangerine.
