Custom Consoles M-Desk Technical furniture chosen for Madeley Academy

Altered Images, one of Britain’s leading resellers of technology for the television production and corporate communications sectors, has chosen Custom Consoles’ to design and supply a large video and audio control room at Madeley Academy in Telford, Shropshire. Based on the M-Desk Technical series, the desk consists of a 6 metre wide inline structure with an integral 3 metre wide side-facing work position at each end.

“The M Desk-Technical range provided the right mix of design flexibility to match our design parameters plus the freedom to incorporate customised elements specific to this installation,” comments Altered Image Company Director Stuart Turner. “The desk is configured for use by up to five operators handling (from left) sound control, production monitoring, lighting control, vision mixing and editing. A triple-bay desktop equipment pod is located at the left and right corners, each pod providing room for twelve 19 inch rack-mounting equipment modules. The left pod doubles as a raised platform for a 32 inch video monitor screen and the right pod supports three PC monitors mounted on Ergotron adjustable arms. Two additional PC monitors are mounted directly to the desktop. Two 13 U equipment bay are located from floor to desk level in the left and right corners respectively and an additional technical equipment housing is provided at the far right. The sound mixer and lighting controllers are free-standing on the desktop, following normal practice, and the vision mixing panel is recessed into the desk in front of the right-hand equipment pod.”

The desk is finished in cherry veneer with a hardwearing blue Marmoleum worksurface. Installation was completed within four weeks of order.

Custom Consoles’ M Desk-Technical furniture is configured from a number of standard modules leaving only the worktops and any client-specific units to be constructed to meet individual requirements. Heavy-duty three-layer cable management with access panels runs along the entire desk width. The M Desk-Technical range is available in a choice of veneers and work-surfaces. Each desk unit is supported by extruded aluminium legs with integral floor-to-desk cable management. Available options include storage pedestals, computer housings, desktop equipment bays and flat-panel monitor mounts.
