Cinedeck ships RX & EX 3.5 Upgrades, including DNxHD 444 and brand new 3D Stereo Tools 1

Cinedeck LLC (www.cinedeck.com), pioneering developer of capture systems for motion picture and broadcast production, continues to set new benchmarks in codec choice and operational capability with the release of its version 3.5 software for Cinedeck RX and portable Cinedeck EX record, monitoring and playback systems. Cinedeck systems already deliver unrivalled codec choice and toolsets to enable the fastest production workflow available, and the trailblazing highlights of the v3.5 release include even more native codec support, including DNxHD 444, DVCPro HD, DPX, XDCAM EX-1440, AVC-Intra, MPEG-IMX, JFIF Meridien, H.264 capture and playback, and Nanoflash MXF playback. (Features vary by model.)

Also included in version 3.5 are Cinedeck’s new 3D stereo visualization tools, which meet production demand for on-set/near-set playback and checking of 3D stereo material as soon as it has been shot. These include several Anaglyph playback options including color, half color, gray and optimized, plus overlay, luma difference, and flip-flop when shooting with mirror/beamsplitter rigs. This comprehensive toolset gives stereographers the opportunity to analyze their 3D set-ups and make adjustments early in the production process.

Additionally, Cinedeck RX is now available in two configurations, as announced at NAB 2012. Cinedeck RX Broadcast and Cinedeck RX Cine/444 focus on the different needs of the broadcast and digital cinema markets.

Cinedeck RX Configurations:
Cinedeck RX is a rack-mountable, solid-state recording, monitoring and playback system. It delivers tapeless workflow to studios, broadcasters and post-production facilities working across the broad range of entertainment production. It has the greatest native capture and codec versatility of any recorder currently available, delivers ready-to-edit files, and eliminates transcoding processes.

Now shipping, the new Cinedeck RX Broadcast configuration is focused on ease of integration into broadcast, mobile OB and multi-camera workflows. It provides true unsynchronized dual camera support where each camera input can support different settings from the other. It has two-channel single-link HDSDI inputs with four single-link HDSDI outputs, full duplex video I/O for simultaneous record/play, character overlay to display/embed metadata, such as timecode, status and GPS coordinates (with supported GPS hardware) on a control room monitor, and supports eight channels of embedded audio. It also offers realtime up/down/cross conversion.

Also shipping, the Cinedeck RX Cine/444 configuration (the original Cinedeck RX system) supports high-resolution workflows typical in digital cinema production, and comes with HDMI, dual-link and 3G HDSDI I/O, two channels of AES audio, and 16 channels per video input of embedded SDI audio. It also offers uncompressed 422 2D and 3D stereo support, plus realtime up/down/cross conversion.

With the new software release, Cinedeck RX Broadcast and Cinedeck RX Cine/444 extend native support to include Panasonic DVCPRO-HD, AVC-Intra, Sony XDCAM EX-1440, plus DPX with audio recorded to WAV, MPEG-IMX, and playback for Nanoflash MXF. Both configurations of Cinedeck RX are shipping with Cinedeck Controller, a free TCP/IP Windows-based application enabling multiple Cinedeck RX systems to be managed from any PC, or via a browser, with no additional hardware requirements. Cinedeck Controller drives up to 24 channels (across 12 Cinedeck RX systems) from a single interface and allows multiple Cinedecks to be configured and controlled simultaneously.

Cinedeck RX Cine/444 v3.5 includes additional support for Avid DNxHD 444, 1080p at 23.98, 24, 25 and 29.97fps, plus Cinedeck’s new 3D stereo visualization monitoring tools.

Cinedeck RX’s unparalleled codec support now encompasses Avid DNxHD; Avid Meridien JFIF; Apple ProRes; CineForm formats; uncompressed 444 (10-bit) or 422 (8- or 10-bit); AVC-I 100/50; XDCAM HD50/XDCAM EX35; DVCPRO-HD; H.264; MPEG-IMX and DPX. Footage is immediately ready for editing in popular editors such as Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas and GV Edius. Avid DNxHD 444 and Apple ProRes 4444 are available on the Cinedeck RX Cine/444 configuration.

Cinedeck EX v3.5 upgrade:
Cinedeck EX is already the fastest gateway from production to post. It enables any camera with an HD-SDI or HDMI output to record to a choice of the most preferred finishing standards used in editorial and VFX post production today – Avid DNxHD, Apple ProRes, CineForm, plus uncompressed 444 and uncompressed 422 recording. Transcoding processes are eliminated, and material is ready-to-edit straight from the Cinedeck EX.

Cinedeck EX v3.5 now adds native support for the record/playback of JFIF Meridien, Panasonic DVCPRO-HD, AVC-Intra 100, Sony XDCam 50, XDCam EX 35 and XDCAM EX-1440, H.264, MPEG-IMX and playback for Nanoflash MXF. This release also includes Cinedeck’s new 3D stereo visualization monitoring tools

Cinedeck EX v3.5 enables VTR-style control of common functions including Record, Pause, Stop and Play, via third-party USB control devices including P.I. Engineering’s X-keys XK-12+Jog & Shuttle, Logitech’s Professional Presenter R800, plus USB keyboard hotkeys. It is also shipping with Cinedeck Controller for simultaneous control of multiple systems.
