Adventure Sports Photography

Adventure Sports Photography 1Okay, I’ll admit it right up front, the reason I like this book so much is because I wrote it!  But since it is the holiday season, this book just might be the perfect gift for the photographer on your list.  Adventure Sports Photography; Creating Dramatic Images in Wild Places covers a variety of topics and is well suited for both beginning and intermediate photographers.  I based a lot of the content on questions I get teaching photo workshops.  What do people really want to know?  What tips have I learned after 30 years of shooting that might help another photographer?

The chapters include subjects such as composition, equipment and workflow.  I also line out detailed technique for shooting a variety of subjects including mountain sports, water sports and winter sports.  I show lighting techniques for portraits, and cover more advanced topics such as Hypersync and High Speed Sync.  If you are interested in outdoor lighting, there is an entire chapter covering it, from small speedlights to big Elinchrom Rangers.  DSLR video techniques are also discussed.

One of the most popular parts of this book has been the chapter on composition.  I explain my thought process in the field for creating images, and how concept affects lighting and composition.  I present 10 self-assignments any photographer can do to broaden their creative eye and technique.

If you are looking for an inexpensive gift this holiday season, check out my book.  Every photographer should pick up a few tips.  And if not, just sit back in the chair and check out the pics from my adventures in field!
