A digest of last week’s news is a selection of some of the news from week 06 from 2016 related to the worlds of photography and video, covering multiple topics, always rounded up with a reading suggestion.

Ripple at NAB 2016

First seen as a prototype at IBC 2015, the Tangent Ripple entry level panel with an entry level price, designed for the occasional colourist, editor, and student, will be presented, in its final version, at NAB 2016, in Las Vegas, from 16 to 21 April.

Ripple provides the essential 3 trackerballs that speed up primary grading. Its small desk foot-print means it will sit comfortably beside your keyboard and mouse, and it won’t get in the way when you’re not using it. Changes introduced in the final version, following some suggestions received at IBC, have delayed the release date, so the panel will be available by the end of April, right after NAB.

MIDIGrade: Controller for DaVinci Resolve

Julius Koivistoinen, a cinematographer and colorist based in Helsinki, Finland, was tired of looking at all the expensive controllers for DaVinci Resolve, so he combined the power of DJ hardware, MIDI message software and some clever programming, and created the ultimate color grading controller panel solution for DaVinci Resolve on a budget!

First presented in January, the controller is evolving and last week the creator announced he is currently working on an update which brings not only Primaries Bars into MIDIGrade but “also has huge performance improvements based on the feedback I got from early adopters!”. Autofocus adapter for manual lenses

The Techart PRO adapter is the world’s first autofocus adapter for your manual focus camera lenses. It is able to turn your manual Leica M lens into an autofocus lens and use it under the Sony A7 cameras. Not only does it immediately give life to all the manual lenses, it also changes the experience we had with these lenses. The Techart PRO adapter is basically a lens adapter with a motor and a printed circuit board, allowing the camera to measure the focus and communicate with the motor.
