NAB 360º Video Report #2 – Ted Schilowitz at the SuperMeet!

NAB 360º Video Report #2 - Ted Schilowitz at the SuperMeet! 1

360º video report from NAB 2016 SuperMeet featuring the super smart and always super entertaining, Ted Schilowitz. Ted introduced and hosted the VR session at the SuperMeet – he also staged an impromptu VR movie production which I filmed in glorious 360°:

(Don’t forget to watch the 360° video using the Google Chrome browser at the highest resolution you can – ideally 4K 2160s. If it doesn’t run smoothly at 2160s come down to 1440s or 1080HD. Click your mouse on the video and drag left and right and up and down to see the scene in 360º spherical.)

Ted Schilowitz has been involved in the Media & Entertainment (M&E) Industry for over twenty years with companies like G-Tech, RED and now Fox and Barco. What this man doesn’t know about the trends and technology of the entertainment industry isn’t worth knowing. Ted is now the head honcho Futurist at 20th Century Fox and Chief Creative Officer at Barco. In these roles, he gets to play with lots of cool tech and peer into the crystal ball of the future. His views on how the M&E industry is evolving are always insightful and pertinent – his views on VR are definitely worth listening to.

As well as being super smart, Ted is also a great guy with a terrific sense of humor. Just before the show he grabbed four of us and asked us to be “actors” in his freshly written VR movie (he wrote the script in the taxi over to the RIO Hotel). We read our lines once and then situated ourselves around the large meeting room …. the unsuspecting audience had no clue that they were about to be “extras” in a VR movie. At the given cue, Actor #1 stood up and shouted out her lines … then Actor #2 and then me …. as you will see, the script is worthy of an Oscar and the four actors should definitely all get hired for the sequel!

BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE AT SUPERMEET 2016.

Michael Horton who runs the LACPUG (LA Creative Pro User Group) and his partner in crime, Daniel Bérubé who runs the BOSCPUG (Boston Creative Pro User Group) put on the Las Vegas SuperMeet every year. Thousands of editors and content creators attend and there’s always a ton of great presentations during the main event and a great mixture of vendors in the food hall area. If you’re in Production or Post and want a fun night out at NAB, you should make the trip to the SuperMeet … guaranteed good time and an opportunity to meet hundreds of like minded crazy people.
