Metadata describes the technical and content aspects of our media, which is useful when organizing for an edit. But beyond that, metadata is increasingly being used to automate the less interesting parts of the production process. Metadata automation using technical metadata has application from on-set review to versioning for distribution. Content metadata is already being used to automate basic string-outs and in the future will do more of the story building process.
